The cold breeze and the low temperatures spice up your appetite and there is always an urge to pop something sweet, to provide warmth and energy. The humble gazak is your way to get the sweetness with the nutrients minus the empty calories.
Gazak is a combination of goodness of Jaggery and Sesame seeds alongwith benefits of Desi ghee.

Jaggery, a store house of energy is digested and absorbed gradually releasing energy over an extended period of time. This gives it a natural advantage over the fast hydrolyzing white sugar. Jaggery, with richness of iron and other minerals, comes with many more benefits; it facilitates digestion after a heavy meal or after eating meat.

A well-proven benefit of jaggery is its ability to cleanse the respiratory tracts, lungs, food pipe, stomach and intestines. It pulls out dust and unwanted particles from the body, to neutralize the ill effects of Smog while giving relief from constipation.

Sesame seed take care of all the effects of winters. A great source of Proteins, Vitamin B and minerals like Zinc,Iron and Calcium,  Sesame seeds are a good aid for digestion and controlling blood pressure. In addition to these important nutrients, sesame seeds also contain: sesamin and sesamolin which have a cholesterol-lowering effect in humans and  prevents high blood pressure and increase vitamin E supplies.

The wide range of fats that compose ghee include medium-chain fatty acids, which are  useful for the body and can be processed by the liver and burnt as energy, not passing into adipose tissue or contributing to weight gain. Since ghee is dairy- free, lactose intolerant individuals who cannot consume butter can eat ghee without any gastrointestinal problems.

Ghee and Sesame seeds neutralize dryness effects of winters, taking care of your skin, eyes and hair. Getting all this goodness in one single delicacy makes it more fabulous. So go ahead relish sweet and crunchy gazak ….. But always do it in small amounts…it is a dessert,   afterall !!
